I have found out from my people that the real reason Ryan Gracie was unable to participate in PRIDE SP was because he and Carlos Barreto got into a fight at the hotel just a few days prior to the event. Ryan Gracie accompanied Royce to the ring in his match with Hidehiko Yoshida, and appeared to be uninjured. Speculation is that PRIDE may have given him some sort of suspension and had Daniel Gracie fight in his place. Daniel Gracie was already in Japan as part of the Gracie entourage.
