The Elephant Style Kung Fu Form
by Shifu Hwang
In Chinese history, every generation has martial art masters who have created their own Kung Fu forms. These Kung Fu practicioners diligently train in their art for two or three decades, after which they are capable of creating their own forms. Some of these newly created forms might be very good, while others may be not good enough.
So, what is the definition of quality Kung Fu and poor Kung Fu? If the Kung Fu forms can improve health, develop flexibilty, increase strength, and the chi-flow feels very pleasant, then I believe these forms should be considered quality. Furthermore, if the forms can help practicioners win in competition, these forms can also be considered quality.
In the old times, most Kung Fu forms gave the benefit of health and fighting technique in unison. Yet, most new Kung Fu forms usually give only health or fighting technique alone. It stands to reason, that Kung Fu forms giving more benefits would be better than those giving fewer benefits.
Elephant Style Kung Fu might be considered a quality form. It doesn't have high kicks and very low stances. So, even older people can still perform the movements and techniques. Moreover, Elephant Kung Fu's foot work and hand manipulations are relatively unique, and give most opponents a surprise.
I believe Elephant Kung Fu form's history is not very old. However, very few people in the world have ever heard about this Kung Fu style.
