On January 27 France became the latest country to sanction MMA with the integration of the sport into the FFF#####.


One of the last countries to resist the MMA tidal wave has finally given way to popular opinion. A set of rules for Mixed Martial Arts were presented to the minister for sports and youth and a commission under the FFF##### (Fédération Française de Full Contact et Disciplines Associées :- French Federation for Full Contact and Associated Disciplines) was formed.

According to the president of the MMA commission, Pride Veteran Bertrand Amoussou, “A test event will be held in April to try out the new rules, and I hope to see full-blown MMA events take place in France before the end of 2008”. Although the rules have not yet been finalized, it is expected that, for the time-being, all MMA events will take place in a ring (not a cage) and that elbows will be forbidden as well as kicks on the ground, though knees to the body will be allowed on the ground.
