Patino znow walczy!
With the ADCC Brazilian Trials 2003 and ADCC 2003 in Brazil, 2003 would seem like it was a big year for submissions in Brazil. Two other events kept up the pace, providing a venue with a lot of professionalism and respect for the athletes. These were Submission Wrestling de Campos and SuperCampeonato Cyclone de Submission.
In reality, the Brazilian Grappling scene was non-existent after the 4 events mentioned above. The year of 2003 was a weak one when we are speaking about submission events. Some events and tournaments not mentioned here organized in the last year had many things wrong with them, mainly a lack of exciting finals and arranged fights between teammates in some of events finals. Who is to blame for these boring fights? The promoters who put a lot of fighters from the same team in one bracket or the fighters who do not fight with professionalism when facing a teammate? In the opinion of this humble ADCC News correspondent, both are guilty and until they change their way of thinking, a lot of Submission tournaments will be considered low level. Then, as if to start the year off right, the Submission Wrestling de Campos comes with its third edition confirmed for January 23th and 24th in Farol de Sao Thome - Arena.
'It only needs more attention from the media, the event is very professional and we are at the same level as the great USA Submission events like Arnold Classic and Grapplers Quest. We pay good money pursues and we take care of the hotel and transportation for the fighters. So I think we can be considered one of the best Submission events, I hope that guys from outside Brazil show interest in competing here in the near future' stated the promoter Leandro Ribeiro Gomes.
