We have a cop (Ed) at our club whose limited BJJ/MMA knowledge saved his life last year.

After pulling a vehicle over three guys got out. Before he could draw his weapon one rushed him-he landed a solid right (he's around 250#s) that dropped him. Next guy tackles him around the lower legs. Ed gets a triangle on gim as he falls. He secures the triangle once they hit the ground and with his hands free, Ed is able to draw his gun on the third guy who is almost on him. Triangle guy goes to sleep so Ed can get up safely, keep them all covered and radio for backup.

There was also a rumor that Motobu had challenged Gichin Funakoshi to a match and when the two met, he swept Funakoshi to the floor and followed up with a punch to the face, which he stopped a couple of inches short-just to show who was boss, I guess. Konishi could not vouch for the truth of this and it may never have happened.
