Hi Garrett,
Spyderco generally scarifices one knife in every 200 to R&D testing. This ensures that our knives are meeting our inside specs.
Spyderco does contant testing on:
1. Rockwell hardness of both the blade and the lock.
2. Goniometer test on the angle of the edge grind.
3. CATRA edge test to detemine if the edge retention is consistent with data for that model.
4. Breaking of blades and locks to make sure that our minimum standards are met for lock strength.
A) light duty is 25 inch;/lbs per inch of blade.Medium duty is 50 inch/lbs perinch of blade.
C) Heavy duty is 100 inch/lbs per inch of blade.
D) Very heavy duty (MBC) is 200 inch/lbs per inch of blade.
6. Q-Fog testing for corrosion resistance.
7. Constant Spine-wack testing on folders.
We have dedicated equipment for these tests.
All scientifically calculated with computers, graphs and charts.
