Vanderlei Silva will put his PRIDE Middleweight throne up for grabs against Kiyoshi Tamura on February 24th in PRIDE 19 at Saitama Super Arena. What kind of fight will the PRIDE Middleweight champion show us?
Pride Fighting Championships: How do you feel now about facing your first title defense match?
Vanderlei Silva: I'm incredibly happy. I can stand in the ring as the champion and prove to the world that Chute Boxe is the best in the world.
Pride: How's your conditioning?
Silva: I'm at my best. Everyday I train with world's best coaches and fighters.
Pride: Please tell us your impression of your upcoming opponent, Tamura.
Silva: I don't know anything about him. Even if I did know something, there wouldn't be any change in my fighting style. But, I did hear that Tamura is a really popular fighter in Japan. As for me, I just hope that he's not only a popular fighter but that he's actually able to fight too.
Pride: What's your strategy?
Silva: Same as always. I'll work for a KO as soon as the fight begins.
Pride: Do you feel confident that you'll win?
Silva: Regardless of how the fight plays out, I think I'll win.
