Matt Serra regrets injury
Champion out of UFC 79
The news has been classified by Dana White, UFC president, as devastating. Called up to defend his welterweight belt against Matt Hughes at UFC 79, on December 29th, Matt Serra ended up suffering a herniated disk during training and is off the card. “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I’ve never had a back injury before; I could hardly get off the MRI table. There is no way I can train through this, and I’m devastated, especially because this was such an important fight. I was looking forward to fighting Matt Hughes. All my training was going phenomenally until Monday – All I can do now is to get better and to fight again as soon as possible,” said Serra to the official UFC website.
With the cancellation of the fight between Matt Serra and Matt Hughes, all heads will be turned to the fight between Wanderlei Silva and Chuck Liddell. There is still a confirmed attraction in the dispute between Brazilian Lyoto Machida and Cameroonian Rameau Sokodjou.
Czyli: Serra uszkodził sobie plecy na treningu, a konkretnie wyskoczył mu dysk. W związku z tym nie zawalczy z Hughesem na UFC 79. Odpowiedź Hughesa:
Czyli: bywa. On nadal trenuje, aż się dowie, co dalej. Niby mucha nie siada, a tymczasem szpilę wsadził: że on z Roycem walczył po uszkodzeniu trzech dysków, a Serra po uszkodzeniu jednego nie może.24.11.2007
Hughes comments on Serra injury
“In my fight with Royce I fought with three bulged discs”
Yesterday UFC fans received some frustrating news. The fight for the welterweight title, to take place at UFC 79, on December 29, will not take place. The reason being Matt Serra, current champion of the division, suffered herniated discs in his back. Former champion Matt Hughes, who would face him for the belt, immediately updated his site, making a declaration about what he thought about his opponent pulling out and chose not to cause controversy.
“As of now, Matt Serra is out of the fight because of a herniated disc in his lower back. I believe Serra is actually hurt, so I don’t think this is just a ploy not to fight. Before my Royce fight, I had three bulged discs that I was able to repair enough to fight. As everybody knows you never go into a fight 100%. So, I’m just going to continue to train until I find out what’s next,” declared the wrestler.
